Day 4 – SMALL WORLDS

Summer Field Trip - Day 4!

For the final day of our Summer Field Trip, we headed to SMALL WORLDS Miniature Museum for a day full of tiny details, surprising discoveries, and incredible miniature worlds!

We entered through a mysterious dark tunnel before suddenly arriving in a huge miniature world filled with everything from rockets and famous moments in space exploration history to airplanes and giant robots.

As we continued through the museum, each area became even more detailed.

We watched tiny trains travel through miniature landscapes, explored mountain villages and busy cities, and discovered all kinds of hidden characters and little surprises tucked into the displays. Looking closely became half the fun—there always seemed to be another tiny detail waiting to be found!

We also visited incredibly detailed recreations of familiar places around Tokyo, including Shibuya Crossing, before arriving at a huge miniature airport where the airplanes actually moved. Even the seating area where we stopped for a short break made us feel like we were sitting inside a real airport terminal!

After seeing so many amazing miniature worlds, it was the perfect opportunity to think about something we use in art all the time: scale and proportion.

Using our worksheets, we talked about what happens when we make something larger or smaller. If one part of an object changes size, everything else also needs to change proportionally for the overall form to continue looking balanced and realistic.

Together, we carefully observed the models around us and thought about how the artists at SMALL WORLDS were able to recreate enormous real-life places on such a tiny scale while still making everything look so believable.

Along the way, we completed another stamp rally, wrote about our favorite parts of the exhibition, and mixed in plenty of English games, charades, conversations, and drawing activities throughout the day.

After exploring the museum, we headed to the park for our picnic lunch and some time to relax, play outside together, and enjoy the beautiful weather before making our way back to Osaki.

It was the perfect way to finish our Summer Field Trips.

Over the four days, we explored museums, discovered new places, spoke English in lots of different situations, created artwork, and made so many wonderful memories together.

I hope this summer gave everyone not only happy memories, but also a little more confidence, curiosity, and inspiration to keep creating and exploring long after the summer ends.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us this year—we already can't wait for next summer! ^^
