Summer Field Trip - Day 1!

Summer Field Trip初日は、アート、英語、そして自然をたっぷり楽しむ一日からスタートしました！

最初に向かったのは、国立西洋美術館です。ギャラリーを見て回りながら、それぞれが「気になる！」と思った作品を一つ選び、じっくり観察しました。

ワークシートを使いながら、その作品の歴史や雰囲気、光と影の使い方、技法、普段なら見過ごしてしまいそうな細かな部分まで英語で考えていきました。また、選んだ作品のスケッチにも挑戦し、いつもより少しゆっくり時間をかけて作品を観察しました。

一人ひとり惹かれる作品が違ったり、同じ作品を見ても気になるポイントが違ったりするのも、とても興味深かったです！

美術館を楽しんだ後は、上野公園へ移動してみんなでピクニック！木陰の気持ちいい場所を見つけて、みんなで座ってランチを食べました。とても暑い夏の日だったので、ランチの後は走り回ったり、鬼ごっこをしたり、噴水の近くで涼んだりしながら過ごしました。

その後は、英語を使ったお絵描きゲームにも挑戦！お手本の絵を見ずに、英語で伝えられる簡単な指示だけを聞いて絵を描いていきます。最後にみんなの絵を見せ合ってみると、まったく同じ英語の説明を聞いていたはずなのに、完成した絵は一人ひとり全然違うものに！それぞれの英語の捉え方が絵に表れていて、とても面白く、クリエイティブな時間になりました＾＾

さらに、今度は生徒たち自身が順番に“describer（説明する人）”にも挑戦しました！

どうすればシンプルで分かりやすい英語で伝えられるのか、そしてみんなが順番に絵を描いていけるように、どの順序で説明すればいいのかを考えながら指示を出していきました。自分の考えを相手に伝わるように英語で説明する、とても良いチャレンジになりました。みんなGreat work！

最後に訪れたのは、国立科学博物館です。涼しい館内で、動物や昆虫、大昔に生きていた生き物、そして生き物の進化についての展示などを見て回りました。

盛りだくさんの一日の最後には、みんなでアイスクリームを食べてから大崎へ！

朝初めて会った生徒同士もいましたが、一日一緒に過ごす中で自然と打ち解け、新しいお友達もできていました。

アート、英語、美術館、ピクニック、外遊び、そしてたくさんの新しい発見が詰まった、とても楽しいField Trip初日になりました！^^

Summer Field Trip - Day 1!

Our Summer Field Trip started with a full day of art, English, and nature!

Our first stop was the National Museum of Western Art. While walking through the gallery, each student chose an artwork that caught their attention and spent some time really observing it.

Using their worksheets, they reflected on their chosen artwork in English—thinking about its history, the mood of the painting, the use of light and shadow, techniques, and small details they might normally walk past without noticing. They also made their own sketches, encouraging them to slow down and observe the artwork more closely.

It was really interesting to see which pieces each child connected with and what different details stood out to them!

After a morning in the museum, we headed outside to Ueno Park for a big picnic together. We found a nice spot under the shade of the trees and sat down to enjoy our lunches together. It was a hot summer day, so after eating, the kids had plenty of time to run around, play tag, and cool off near the fountains.

Next, we played some English drawing games! The students listened to simple drawing instructions without seeing the image being described. At the end, everyone revealed their drawings—and even though they had all heard exactly the same instructions, every picture was completely different! The results were very funny and creative, and it was interesting to see how differently everyone interpreted the same English sentences. ^^

The students also took turns being the “describer” themselves! They had to think about how to make their instructions simple and clear, as well as what order to give the directions in so that everyone could follow along and build up the drawing step by step. It was a fun challenge that got everyone thinking carefully about how to communicate their ideas in English. Great work, everyone!

For our final stop, we visited the National Museum of Nature and Science. We cooled down inside while exploring animals, insects, creatures from long ago, and exhibits showing how different species have evolved over time.

After such a full day, we finished with some well-earned ice cream before making our way back to Osaki!

Some of the students had only just met that morning, but throughout the day everyone became comfortable with each other and new friendships naturally started to form.

It was a really nice first day—art, English, museums, a picnic, lots of playing, and plenty of new things to discover together! ^^
